Our frames are crafted from cellulose acetate, a premium material derived primarily from renewable plant-based sources. The result is a frame material that offers exceptional comfort, durability, and rich color depth, while reflecting our commitment to thoughtful craftsmanship and responsible sourcing. Our production method also allows us to produce frames at zero material waste, making the manufacturing process more efficient while maintaining the strength and quality expected from premium eyewear.

At Spectaculars, durability is built into every detail. Our frames feature the original pin-rivet hinge designed and patented for eyewear in 1921, reinforcing the temple connection for long-term strength and stability.

The Material Behind the Frame
Cellulose acetate is a biodegradable, plant-based material made from renewable natural resources—specifically wood pulp and cotton fibers. One of the earliest synthesized plastics, it was first used in photographic film and later adapted for textiles, household goods, and wearables. Naturally hypoallergenic, cellulose acetate is comfortable for extended daily wear, adapting naturally to the wearer for a more comfortable fit than standard plastic frames. Our frames are crafted using premium cellulose acetate produced in the United States by Eastman Chemical Company, a leader in the development and manufacturing of acetate materials. Durable and endlessly expressive in color, cellulose acetate has been shaping design for over a century.

The quality of a frame is only as good as the lens it holds. That’s why we offer two premium lens options, each providing 100% UV protection and exceptional visual clarity. Our CR-39 lenses, developed in Pennsylvania by PPG Industries, are considered the gold standard in the industry and are renowned for their lightweight comfort and excellent optical performance, delivering a crisp, natural viewing experience. For enhanced durability and everyday versatility, we also offer KleanVue Tritan™ VX1 lenses, developed in Tennessee by Eastman Chemical Company, an impact-resistant, BPA- and DEP-free material featuring anti-reflective and blue-light filtering coatings. Thoughtfully selected to complement our frames, both lens options reflect our commitment to craftsmanship, comfort, and lasting quality.
